Class sizes are always small, each student's lesson plan is personalized to suit the individual, their level, and interests, and the instructor gives each student individual attention, instruction, and feedback during each class. Students can take 1-hour classes or a full-day program with free pick-up service starting as early as 11:30am, and the after school program includes transportation provided to nearby schools such as Findley Elementary, Bonny Slope Elementary, Cedar Mill Elementary, Forest Park Elementary, Terra Linda Elementary, Sato Elementary, Jacob Wismer Elementary, Rock Creek Elementary, Bethany Elementary, Springville Elementary, West TV Elementary, and more.
Art World School was established in 1997 in Portland as a professional fine art school and was later expanded by art professional Mimi Yan. Mimi Yan has extensive teaching experience with students of all ages and has received training in fine art, graphic design, and art history in New York, abroad, and in Portland, Oregon. She established the school to create a learning center for students of all ages who are interested in art to learn the skills they have always wanted to and create the art they have always wanted to, and the school stresses the importance of helping each student develop a strong basic skill set by learning the fundamentals of art, concepts, and methods first.
Since its establishment in 1997, Art World School has held classes, art shows, student events, and events for the community. The school holds two art shows every year for all students, including those from the after school program, fine art program, online art program, summer camp, spring camp, winter camp, no school day camp, and fall camp. Annual art shows are held at the Portland Art Museum, Washington Square Mall, Cedar Mill Library, and other venues in the Portland, Beaverton, Bethany, Tigard, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Vancouver, and Clackamas areas. Art World School also holds an annual art show for students at the Portland Art Museum and showcases student artwork every year at Washington Square Mall as well as the Portland Art Museum. The school organizes art performance events every year for students to demonstrate live drawing. Art World School has partnered with Warner Bros on art classes for students to create artwork on “Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore” to celebrate the release of the movie, where students were able to attend the advance screening and receive promotional items.
Media publications about Art World School and its students have appeared in the Oregonian, Tigard Times, Portland Chinese Times, and other outlets.
