About
Avid4 Adventure Camps – Portland Adventure Camp offers a one-week Adventure summer camp where campers spend each day on a different outdoor activity. Campers take part in mountain biking, rock climbing at a local crag, hiking a trail, stand up paddleboarding, and flat-water kayaking, with a sample weekly schedule of Monday stand up paddleboarding, Tuesday hiking, Wednesday mountain biking, Thursday rock climbing, and Friday kayaking. Campers can bring their own bikes or use bikes from the camp’s fleet, which accommodates campers of any size, and they use top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday, with regular camp hours 9 AM–3 PM and optional extended hours 8 AM–6 PM
• Price: One Week Price $740; Early Drop Off (starting at 8 AM) $40; After Care (pick up 3–6 PM) $115; Avid4 Merch (delivery at camp, prices vary, tax included)
Campers are grouped by grade range, with 2nd–4th graders focusing on getting comfortable with new activities and 5th–7th graders focusing on teamwork, mentorship, and deepening technical competence. Every challenge is calibrated to campers’ age and ability, and programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17. The camp provides transportation to and from local recreation areas for each day’s adventure sport, and parents and campers meet staff at a consistent location daily.
During activities, campers learn about flora and fauna, practice Leave No Trace principles, and take part in teambuilding activities to connect with fellow campers. Stand up paddleboarding sessions include games, challenges, instruction in proper strokes, and rescue techniques, while flat-water kayaking instruction covers paddling equipment, safety, and basic skills before deeper skill building.
The Avid4 Adventure mission states that the organization believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids at Avid4 Adventure build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. The organization states that it does everything in its power to keep kids safe while teaching them to take calculated, well-communicated risks.
Avid4 Adventure hires instructors who are all 18 and older, with safety and skills training and experience as outdoors experts who enjoy working with kids. The leadership team is headed by founder David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, runs summer camps accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.
Parent testimonials describe the camp as a favorite experience, noting that one camper learned to ride a bike without training wheels during camp and later became fully comfortable riding after a few more park trips. Other parents report that their children were eager to share what they learned each day, describe the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion, and say their kids were active every day and continued talking about camp weeks later.
