About

Extended Day Mountain Biking Camp – Portland focuses on mountain biking and trail riding, including riding on rolling single and double track terrain, descending and ascending trail sections, and riding narrow and winding trails. Campers practice basic bike commands such as braking, shifting, bunny hops, and track stands, and learn good trail etiquette. They also learn bicycle maintenance basics, including how to safety check their bikes, solve gear problems, change flat tires, and properly fit a helmet and bike.

• Schedule: One-week extended day sessions, Monday–Friday

The program runs as a one-week extended day session with camp hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and optional after care from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with camp beginning promptly at 8:00 AM. Extended Day Mountain Biking Camp begins one hour earlier than other Portland camp offerings, and with this extra hour of camp, mountain bikers are able to access terrain that is normally off-limits to other camp groups. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own tuned bikes that fit well and are appropriate for dirt trails, including hand brakes and wider tires, and a bike rental option is available during registration. In order to register, campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface, and if a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, the organization reserves the right to move the camper to a different program if space is available or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit.

The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee and uses top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, with transportation provided to and from recreation areas. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization states that it was created to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to set them on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship, building kids’ skills, confidence, grit, and determination in adventure sports including mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, and paddling. Avid4 Adventure describes its instructors as incredibly well-trained and professional, all 18 and older with serious safety and skills training, and notes that parents frequently give positive feedback about Avid4 instructors.

The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and has 25 years of experience in the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The organization is a Certified B Corp committed to public transparency and accountability, runs highly acclaimed summer camps accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.

Parent testimonials report that a camper who previously used training wheels learned to ride without them during an Avid4 camp and later became comfortable riding independently. Other parents describe the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, and say their kids were active every day, learned new outdoor skills, and continued talking about camp and wanting to return.
