About

Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp focuses on stand up paddleboarding and paddling, with campers practicing paddle strokes and playing team building games. Campers learn basic strokes, rescue techniques, and water safety, including swim rescue, recovering a lost board, and towing an injured paddler. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong.

Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp groups campers by grade range, with separate groups for 2nd–4th graders and 5th–7th graders, and activities are tailored to campers' abilities, progressing as they build proficiency and comfort. The camp provides individualized support as campers deepen their technical skills and offers transportation to and from recreation areas along with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids. The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if Avid4 Adventure does not meet these promises, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and it organizes big adventures in beautiful recreation areas and believes in empowering kids of all ages from PreK–12. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The camp’s instructors are described as highly trained, 18 and older, with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training, and Avid4 Instructors are identified as the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers. Avid4 Adventure describes its instructors as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring almost as much as they love working with kids. At the helm of Avid4 Adventure is David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.

Parent testimonials report that one camper’s favorite camp was Avid4, that she had never done any of the activities before and that stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking became her favorite activities, and that during camp she learned how to ride a bike without training wheels and continued practicing after camp, with the parent stating “AVID taught her so much!” Another parent reports that their child was eager to show them what she learned each day and describes Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, calling it a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. A third parent reports that their kids “had THE BEST time at this camp,” that the kids still talked about it over a month later and wanted to return the next year, and that the parent appreciated that the kids were active every day and learning how to enjoy everything Colorado has to offer.
