Bridgetown Conservatory of Musical Theatre was launched in 2017, following an initial Broadway musical theater vocal performance workshop in 2016 and the first full triple-threat training term in 2017. In 2021, Bridgetown added a triple-threat program focused on adults, and in 2024 musical theater productions and performances became an additional facet of the program, with the 2024 season including multiple productions and revues. In 2025, performances included MAKE ME A SONG, THE LIGHTNING THIEF (Wam2025 performance camp), and THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SNOOPY. Bridgetown was invited to fill the education and performance void in Salem, Oregon after the dissolution of Enlightened Theatrics in February 2024.
Rick Lewis, resident music director for Portland Center Stage, launched Bridgetown Conservatory of Musical Theatre. Rick Lewis worked professionally in New York City for 15 years as a music director, pianist, and arranger, with credits that include numerous Off-Broadway and cabaret performances as music director and pianist, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (pre-Broadway workshop with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine) as casting pianist, THE LIFE (pre-Broadway workshop with Cy Coleman) as assistant music director and vocal director, THE BEST OF DISNEY (Disney Live Theatrical), the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, American Hawaii Cruises, American Classic Voyages cruise lines, and writer and arranger of the Off-Broadway musical THE TAFFETAS. Instructors at Bridgetown are industry professionals with Broadway, Off-Broadway, National Tours, and other credits, and instructors all came with Broadway and National Tour credits.
Bridgetown Conservatory states that it provides professional triple-threat training in acting, dance, and vocal performance, taught by industry professionals who have been where its students dream of going. It states that, in a challenging and supportive environment, it creates the opportunity for successful college entrance and career entry and advancement within the theatre industry, and that it aims to provide students with every opportunity to “become their potential.” Bridgetown identifies itself as the first professional triple-threat program for young performers in the Portland area and also offers an adult triple-threat class open to adults ages 20 and up. The program reports a 95% acceptance rate to top tier college musical theater programs, with most students receiving 3 to 7 offers, and states that over 80 graduating high school students have gained entrance into top tier college musical theater programs around the world with Bridgetown’s help. A TASTE OF BROADWAY is a 5-day triple-threat workshop with working Broadway professionals.
