Flying Tortoise Kung Fu

Flying Tortoise Kung Fu offers classes in Northern Chinese Kung Fu (Gong Fu) and Capoeira. The program includes Drop-in Classes that can be joined any time and Enrollment Classes with fixed entry dates offered 5 times per year. It also hosts workshops, corporate experiences, and educational experiences that include Capoeira and Brazilian culture, Chinese Martial Arts, and Chinese Tea Ceremony (Gong Fu Cha).

Programs

• Martial arts instruction — We teach many styles of Northern Chinese Kung Fu (Gong Fu) as well as Capoeira.

About the provider

Shifu/Professor Joey Haber is the lead instructor and founder of The Flying Tortoise Academy. He first was exposed to martial arts in 1988 and began teaching in 1999. In April 2024, he became the first American Master of Cheng Baguazhang formally recognized by the Chinese family in a generation, and he is called Yi Biao, or The Resilient Three Knifed Tiger. The studio is inclusive, LGBTQ+ affirming, BIPOC welcoming, and woman managed.

• Workshops — We host martial arts masters at our school and share them with our student base.
• Corporate Experiences — Experiences range from 45 minutes to multiple day events and can focus on strength building, internal kung fu alignment, and Gong Fu Cha education and enjoyment.
• Educational Experiences — Staff visit schools and share Capoeira and Brazilian culture, Chinese Martial Arts, or Chinese Tea Ceremony (Gong Fu Cha).

No contracts. Beginners are accepted. There are 3 membership tiers. The school breaks with Portland Public Schools 4 times per year.
