Portland Fashion Institute Kids Workshops offers hands-on fashion activities such as Fashion Life Drawing, Playing with Fabric, Pattern Grading, Pattern Hacking Fun, Visible Mending/Sashiko, and Alterations and Mending. The program also includes Computer Print Design [Online], Browzwear 3D Patternmaking, and Pattern 3 – Design as part of its workshops for kids.

Portland Fashion Institute is a nonprofit fashion design school with a mission to introduce creative people to the apparel skills they need to get a job or better job in the industry or to enjoy a more productive life. All of the instructors have apparel industry experience and are employed in the industry. Portland Fashion Institute was founded in 2002 as Portland Sewing with a beginning sewing class for four students. It is a nationally accredited private nonprofit career institute of higher learning and Portland’s only accredited fashion design college, and it is licensed by Oregon’s Office of Degree Authorization. In 2023, Portland Fashion Institute became a nonprofit 501(c)(3). The institute is Oregon's only private nonprofit fashion design college, offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced sewing classes, and offers three programs in apparel design, technical development, and fashion business. It offers both “Classes for Fun. Classes for Careers.” and states that summer kids classes are very popular and fill up fast. More than 80 percent of full program enrollees have gone into internships and jobs in the apparel industry. Portland Fashion Institute accepts grants and 529 plans such as Oregon College Savings Plan funds and pursues contracts and affiliations with welfare, rehabilitation, and other workforce development programs. Portland Fashion Institute’s mission includes “#schoolwithoutdebt” and it states that it will continue to offer an attainable apparel education.
