About
Rose City Neighborhood Preschool is a play-based, cooperative preschool program. The program includes a Rainbow Class and a Star Class, each led by dedicated teachers and supported by educational assistants.
• Ages: 3–5 years old
• Schedule: Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9am–12pm
Rose City Neighborhood Preschool follows a mission of enriching young minds through play and exploration, using a play-based learning philosophy that allows children to develop at their own pace and gain a deeper understanding of the world. The cooperative program has been building community in a spacious, light-filled classroom since 1975.
The leadership team includes Teacher Laurie, who leads the Rainbow Class for 4- to 5-year-olds, and Teacher Emma, who leads the Star Class for 3- to 4-year-olds. Teacher Brooke serves as the Educational Assistant in the Rainbow Class, and Teacher Sandy serves as the Educational Assistant in the Star Class. Laurie is a certified elementary education teacher who has taught in Portland, Beaverton, and South Africa, and has completed coursework to become a Positive Discipline Parenting Educator. Brooke has a BS in Human Development and experience teaching children of all ages and levels of need. Emma studied elementary education at Canterbury Christ Church University, taught in primary schools in England with kids aged 4–11, and has been teaching preschool in the U.S. since 2013.
One alumni parent, Stephanie Tol, shared that both teachers are incredibly knowledgeable about the developmental stages of the children, sincerely care for their social, emotional, and intellectual growth, and that the environment is beautiful and set up with great intention, noting that both of her children transitioned seamlessly into kindergarten and that the family remains connected to other families from their time at the preschool.
