About

The Portland Interscholastic League Youth Sports Program (PILYSP) offers athletic programming that includes baseball, softball, dance, boys basketball, and tennis. The middle school program is cluster based, meaning each student participates in one of the eight high school clusters they live within. High school athletics in this program promotes participation and sportsmanship through a competitive interscholastic athletic program, and every athlete is provided with opportunities, positive recognition, and learning experiences that support and maximize the academic goals of the high school.

• Ages: 11–14 years old

PILYSP serves 6th–8th grade students who live within Portland Public Schools boundaries. Its mission is to build character, community, and academic excellence through equitable athletic programming. Athletics in this program uses experiences that are inherently educational to foster lifelong lessons such as teamwork and self-discipline, while supporting the physical and emotional development of student athletes.

The program’s leadership team includes Senior Director of PIL Athletics Marshall Haskins and Assistant District Athletic Directors Jeff Peeler and Diallo Lewis. Additional leadership roles include Director of Special Programs / Youth Sports Dunya Minoo, Business Operations Analysts Gina Aman and Heather Egan, Administrative Assistant for Youth Sports and Transportation Devin Bookout, Youth Sports Program Assistant Athletic Director Timothy Biamont, Marketing / Communications staff member Marci Walton, and Administrative Assistant for Volunteer Opportunities Kimberly Swopes. High school athletic directors involved with the program include Jessica Russell (Benson High School), Jacob Lambert (Cleveland High School), Alan Boschma (Franklin High School), Odie Hollingshed (Grant High School), Mike Nolan (Ida B Wells High School), Donnie Siel (Jefferson High School), Matt Wiles (Lincoln High School), Tyler Kelleher (McDaniel High School), and Willie Williams (Roosevelt High School). Youth Cluster Coordinators include Erin Brunton for Franklin, Andre Lawrence for Jefferson, Maurice Davis for McDaniel, and Jaeger Vega for Roosevelt.
