All students receive training from professional dance faculty, with instruction that emphasizes classical technique, artistry, and passion. The School Director, Katarina Svetlova, received classical ballet training from Haydee Gutierrez in Miami, continued at the OBT School, and also studied at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart and the Princess Grace Academy in Monte Carlo. She began her professional career at age 15 and danced as a principal with Oregon Ballet Theatre from 1995 to 2002 and with Deutsche Oper Am Rhein Ballett from 2002 to 2007, performing in works by James Canfield, Peter Martins, Trey McIntyre, and Sarah Slipper.

OBT School’s mission is to provide the highest quality dance training to all its students and states that every student deserves the best instruction possible, whether or not they pursue a career in dance. The curriculum incorporates classical ballet traditions with evidence-based modern training practices and aims to produce coachable, healthy, well-rounded dancers. OBT School makes annual, need-based financial aid available to students and states a mission to share meaningful, high-quality dance experiences with students, families, and communities, inspire children and adults to use their bodies in new and different ways through dance, and connect with the community by removing physical and cultural barriers and providing greater access to dance.
