About

The Summer Youth Culinary Program focuses on hands-on cooking activities. Participants spend time preparing food and using cooking as a way to explore food, nutrition, and cultural connection.

• Ages: 11–18 years old

Feed the Mass began in 2016 as an educational initiative focused on empowering individuals with practical food knowledge and skills. The Summer Youth Culinary Program is part of this work, offering a hands-on enrichment program for youth ages 11–18 to build a deeper understanding of food, nutrition, and cultural connection through cooking. Feed the Mass states that its mission is to combat food insecurity in Portland by empowering people, educating communities, and serving those in need. Its programs, including this one, are described as empowering individuals with the nutrition, knowledge, and community they need to thrive.

The organization also runs the FED Program, which is a core meal production and food access initiative that delivers consistent, high-quality, culturally specific, ready-to-eat meals across the Portland Metro area. Another related effort is the Feed the Kids program, which addresses that 1 in 6 children in Multnomah County face food insecurity, especially outside of school hours.

Media contact for the organization is listed as John McIsaac. Community members have described Feed the Mass as a “great experience,” noting food quality, hygiene standards, and customer support, and have called it a “very important organization.”
