Since 1947, Tucker Maxon has taught children to listen, talk, learn and achieve excellence together. Tucker Maxon School teaches deaf and hearing children to listen, talk, learn, and achieve excellence together. The program takes place in a small classroom environment with an average 8:1 student-to-adult ratio and is led by experienced and caring teachers. It uses a communication-focused curriculum with a focus on academic excellence, strong communications, and social and emotional intelligence. The school is an auditory-verbal school teaching listening and spoken language, with co-enrollment of deaf or hard-of-hearing and typical hearing children learning together. Sign language (ASL) is taught in an after school club and a playgroup. The environment is described as language-rich, with many opportunities for open-ended discussion and critical thinking, and students who need extra help receive it while those who are ahead are challenged appropriately. Every student is known and valued. A virtual tour with 18 parts shows the classroom, playground, treehouse, garden, and goats.
