Twin Rocks Friends Camp & Conference Center’s mission is “To use God’s creation and a Christ-centered environment to promote personal growth and devotion to Jesus Christ.” Twin Rocks Friends Camp’s first “conference” was held in 1918, and 2018 marked the one-hundredth year since the camp was established. The organization is owned by the evangelical Friends Churches of western Oregon and southwest Washington. The leadership team includes Executive Director Ken Beebe, Operations Director Paul Lewis, Program Director Tiffany Briley, Guest Services Director Katey Astleford, Facilities Director Jeff Sargent, Development Director Liz Seume, Food Service Director Karl Seume, Housekeeping Manager Mary Kyle, Outdoor Education Coordinator Ariana Greer, and Assistant Facilities Director David LaPlante.
Twin Rocks Friends Camp & Conference Center sponsors Christian camps and retreats and offers youth camps, leadership development programs, adult and family camps and events, and special needs camps. Its youth and extended-stay programs include the Servant Leadership Program (S.L.P.) for high school students and a Young Adult Summer Staff program with rotating work assignments such as washing dishes, preparing meals, working grounds, cleaning cabins, lifeguarding, archery instruction, and working in the camp store. During Youth Camps (Kids Camp, Tween, and Surfside), parents can send a one-way email message to campers by putting the camper’s name in the subject line; campers do not reply to these messages due to limited access.
Parent and participant comments about Youth Camps describe campers wishing camp “could last all summer long,” enjoying “everything from recreation to worship,” and saying they “loved every part of Tween Camp.” Other Youth Camps feedback states that “camp is INCREDIBLY well run,” that parents “always know what to expect, what to bring, how to prepare,” and that “all camps should be run like Twin Rocks,” describing the camp as “organized, clean, and friendly.” Testimonials about the Servant Leadership Program (SLP) and extended-stay experiences describe them as “meaningful, transformational, and a whole lot of fun,” and speak about growing in personal relationship with God, being challenged spiritually, and learning how to be “a leader of others who strives to put people before himself.” Summer Staff participants report that being part of Summer Staff “allowed me to cultivate my faith in exciting and new ways through a community based lifestyle,” that “the chance to step aside from the rest of the world for a summer” shaped them in ways that “will stick with me forever,” and that “the support and encouragement makes the work of constantly serving and giving a joy.”
