About

The Salvation Army Summer Camps offer activities such as swimming, canoeing, hiking, archery, other sports, arts and crafts, music, drama, team-building activities, leadership training, community service projects, and scouting. Camp sessions include outdoor recreation, educational activities, and hands-on projects that are programmed to spark curiosity and collaboration and foster education. The camps are available as both day and overnight summer camps and are supervised by trained counselors.

• Price: The Salvation Army’s network of free summer camps allows kids of all ages, despite their family’s income level, to have a safe, fun, unforgettable summer camp experience.

The Salvation Army camp counselors are equipped to help children navigate the complicated emotions and struggles that can arise for those who experience poverty and related hardships. The counselors are trained to recognize the effects of the stressors of poverty on children and respond to a child’s emotional needs so kids feel safe, included, and welcome. The camps include programs for kids from low-income households and accept state-provided child care subsidies at most summer camps, and scholarships are available to help families offset the cost. The Salvation Army describes the camp setting as a safe, structured, and positive environment with supervision by trained counselors.

The Salvation Army states that it is an international movement and an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible, and its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army also serves local families through Kroc Community Centers and after-school programs.
