Oregon Music Academy’s mission is to help children learn, love, and succeed with music for a lifetime. Its programs are built on over 15 years of experience and the latest best practices in music pedagogy, and during the past 15 years over 2000 students have made music a part of their life there. The staff is composed of highly trained musicians and educators, and teachers are hired through a multi-step audition and interview process with ongoing training and mentoring from lead teachers. The academy reports having 200+ positive reviews and is considered the top leading community music school in the Portland metro area. Families from Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, Sherwood, Lake Oswego, Portland, and surrounding areas use Oregon Music Academy’s programs.

Teachers at Oregon Music Academy are described in program materials as patient, caring, encouraging, inspiring, friendly, nurturing, approachable, and positive. One parent, Karen Emerson, reports that her sons have been taking piano lessons for a few years, have developed their skills, and have had fun, and she notes that “outside” songs are encouraged in addition to the curriculum. Another parent, Martha Minter, states that their teacher inspires excellence and enjoyment of music without undue pressure and that lessons have been a positive part of her daughter’s education. A parent named Angie Ellsworth shares that her 7-year-old loves his teacher, Melody, and describes Melody as well trained in music and teaching, very patient, and tailoring lessons each week; she also notes that recitals and the Friday Night Jam Session make kids feel like they are part of a family. Other unnamed parents report that their child has gained confidence and practices at home, that their kids find Oregon Music Academy inviting and have made friendships with teachers, and that they like the academy’s philosophy of having fun with music, enjoying it, and learning to love it.
