The Practice Facility describes its mission as being built by players, for players, offering a wide range of training options in a supportive but challenging environment and stating that it will not lower the bar for the sake of achievement. The mission emphasizes dedication, consistency, hard work, and a culture summed up in the phrase “WORK. HARDER.” and notes that the program works with various skill levels from young beginners to established professionals who share a consistent drive to get better. The mission also states that the environment is supportive, aims to build trust, and seeks to push players out of their comfort zone without losing confidence in their abilities.

The leadership team includes Owner Josiah Lake, General Manager Sean Overton, Program Manager Marco Williams, Marketing Manager Laurie Cren, and Content Manager Max d’Auvergne. Josiah played basketball at Oregon State University, graduated with multiple business degrees in 2001, and spent 11 years working for Brand Jordan as Global Director of Jordan Footwear. Sean played Division I football at Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree, continued his education through the International Sports Science Association and the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and has spent the last 25 years creating better athletes through corrective exercise techniques. Coach Demarco “Marco” Williams is a former college athlete with over six years of coaching experience, including three years in basketball. Laurie has played basketball at a high level for 16 years, played at the Elite level in France for two professional clubs in the south of France (Montpellier BLMA and Toulouse TMB), earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Warner Pacific, and has coached in France and the United States with former Olympic players and professional coaches from France, Serbia, and Spain, including FC Barcelona. Coach Maxwell d’Auvergne played high school basketball at Rex Putnam High School, then at Portland Community College and Arizona Christian University (NAIA Division I), where he was part of a top-10 nationally ranked team that reached the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament. Max has served on several varsity coaching staffs, became head varsity coach at Rex Putnam in 2021, led Rex Putnam High School to its first state championship tournament appearances in 40 years, and won NWOC Coach of the Year in both of his first two seasons.

The program’s history notes that in 2013 Josiah was able to focus on his passion full-time to open The Practice Facility in Portland, Oregon. In 2017, he expanded The Practice Facility to China, creating a second location in partnership with Elite Basketball to bring their elite-level training and passion for the game to players overseas. The program describes itself as the most comprehensive training facility in the Northwest, with camps that combine skill development, decision-making, and game application. It highlights the Shot Lab for improving the accuracy and consistency of shooting, the Performance Lab for becoming a quicker, stronger athlete, and the Recovery Lab powered by Normatec and HyperVolt technology, and states that the facility provides everything basketball players need to improve under one roof. Max’s recognition includes winning NWOC Coach of the Year in both of his first two seasons.
