About
Lois Johnson Learning & Child Care Center offers early learning and child care, including care for children from 6 weeks through Kindergarten. The program also operates school-age care for children in Kindergarten through 7th grade.
• Ages: 6 weeks–12 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–6 p.m.
Lois Johnson Learning & Child Care Center has been educating and caring for young children in the community for over five decades. The program operates five school-age sites for Kindergarten–7th Grade within Franklin, Lincoln, Memorial, Penn, and Washington Elementary Schools in the Bethel Park School District, and offers all-day Kindergarten care at Washington Elementary. All of the early learning centers are nut-free facilities.
Staff members are selected for their caregiving and teaching experience, training, and educational background, along with their sensitivity to the individual needs of the school-age child. Staff are trained in pediatric first aid and CPR, have current clearances, and meet the requirements of the Department of Human Services (DHS) for licensed child care facility staff. Leadership roles include an Extended Care Director and Co-Owner, a Summer Camp Director, Early Learning Center Directors for Bethel Park and South Park, an Executive Manager, Health Care Consultant and Co-Owner who is an RN, an Administrative Assistant, Little Lullabies leadership positions, and directors and assistant directors in training.
The program’s stated mission is that each child is an individual with his or her own needs and will be treated as such, that each child will be treated with respect, and that each child needs care and nurturing in the absence of parents as well as with them. The mission also states that each child needs directions for activities with room for creativity, must treat others with respect and fairness in work and play, relaxes and participates in an atmosphere of informal structure, works best with consistent guidelines, and will be treated equally and fairly regardless of color, race, religion, or origin.
Lois Johnson Learning & Child Care Centers are licensed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) and are Keystone STARS Centers, a collaboration between the Pennsylvania Department of Education and DHS. They are members of the Pennsylvania Child Care Association (PACCA) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
