About
IDEAS Summer Camps offers a mix of daily activities that can include an inflatable waterslide, a dunk tank, a daily water slide, and daily instructional swimming. Campers take part in programs such as Star Wars Jedi Academy, Ultimate Drone Racing, Robot X Games, StemQuest, Roblox with a new weekly Roblox theme, Minecraft with a new weekly Minecraft theme, and 2–3 sports or games per day. The program also includes traditional sports, an interactive playground, robotics, design, coding, digital arts, programming, and esports, with new weekly themes and plenty of screen breaks built into the day.
• Ages: 3–13 years old
Since 1997, the company behind IDEAS Summer Camps has been delivering creative summer camps nationwide to more than 300,000 students. The program is designed to be a traditional day camp for grades Pre-K to 2 and an art, science, and technology-based program for grades 3–8, using project-based, collaborative, hands-on activities across technology, arts, sports, digital media, coding, and esports offerings. The camp states a philosophy and approach to teaching based on enrichment with a primary focus on experimentation, confidence-building, positivity, and character building.
IDEAS Summer Camps notes that extended care and snack are free and included, that extended care is always complimentary, and that flexible scheduling is available. Weekly enrollment is limited overall and also limited per age group to maintain a safe and intimate camp environment. The camp describes a focus on confidence, self-expression, empathy, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills, along with a blend of fun, experimental learning, positivity, and tradition.
The staff is described as adult-led with a low ratio, a 360° background check, and a 30+ hour pre-camp training program. The camp location is described as convenient for families in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area, including Castle Shannon, Bethel Park, Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon, Baldwin, Peters Township, Jefferson Hills, South Park, and Whitehall.
Parent testimonials describe children wanting to return week after week for new themes and refer to IDEAS Summer Camps as a traditional and STEM camp combination with time outside and not behind a screen all day. Parents mention younger campers being engaged for the entire day, appreciation for the free extended care option, and children learning to race drones and sharing those skills at home. Other testimonials describe day camp as the highlight of the summer, children showing excitement about attending, and daily instructional swimming as a major asset, with one parent noting that 4-year-old twins are learning a lot and enjoy seeing Ozzie, the camp mascot, at morning drop-off.
