About
Komotion Dance Program offers classes in Ballet, Pointe, Hiphop, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Tap, and Acro. The program includes pre-level classes for beginning dancers and additional levels for older dancers, along with a Peer Leadership Program where eligible dancers assist with classes and events. Komotion Dance Program is also described as “Komotion Nation” and as “kids in motion.”
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Regular season classes run from early-September through mid-May, with no penalty to drop or add classes from week 1 through December 1; occasional summer classes and annual summer camps are also offered
Komotion Dance Program was established in 2015 and is celebrating its 11th season. It is founded on principles of superior dance education, leadership development, and multicultural appreciation, and its programs are described as bringing joy, discipline, and artistry to the stage while fostering excellence, leadership, and a lifelong love of dance. Programs are for ages 3 and up, with Pre-Level A for kids turning age 3 or 4 by December 31st and Pre-Level B for kids turning age 5 by December 31st or entering Kindergarten in August 2025. For older dancers, classes are formed based on age, with Level 1 for kids entering 1st and 2nd grade, Level 2 for Intermediate School (3rd, 4th, and 5th), Level 3 for Middle School (6th, 7th, and 8th), Level 4 for High School (9th–12th), and Pointe for high school students with instructor approval.
The team consists of 13 instructors, each specially trained to teach in their discipline. The founder, Hide Horikoshi, is described as a movement practitioner, sport performance coach, kettlebell, speed and agility, and Olympic lifting specialist, group fitness instructor, seasoned dance teacher, and devoted follower of Christ. The word “Ko” in Japanese means child.
Classes take place at Resurrection Movement Studio, and classes are generally not open for observation, but caregivers are invited into classrooms once per month for Caregiver Observation Week. Caregivers can use a downloadable RMS/Komotion app for Apple or Android to register online and stay up-to-date. The program participates in performance opportunities at many community events throughout the year, hosts a charity performance and an end-of-year recital annually, and has planned participation in a 2025 Halloween Parade with an official Parade Guide.
