About

Benchmark Camp is a five-week summer day program that combines language arts instruction with recreation. Campers take part in activities such as swimming, art, crafts, robotics, sports and games, small group games, gym time, and activities in the Innovation Lab. The program also includes a 35-event Confidence Course, a Confidence Ropes Course, and a 40-foot high, 250-foot long zipline, and campers visit two recreation stations each day and rotate among six stations during the week.

• Ages: 6–11 years old
• Schedule: Five-week 2026 Summer Season with full-day, half-day, and language arts–only options, plus after-camp care

Benchmark Camp includes Benchmark School’s internationally recognized language arts program and uses a combination of individualized teacher support and personal goal setting, with campers grouped in classes with other children similar in skills and age. Classes at Benchmark School have no more than 13 students per classroom and have multiple teachers in all language arts and math classrooms. The program provides an academic boost for children in rising grades 1–6 and is especially beneficial for bright children with dyslexia, ADHD, auditory processing, or other learning differences, and it is based on the Benchmark Approach, a unique way of teaching children with learning differences including dyslexia, executive function skills challenges, and ADHD. Families travel from states across the country to attend the camp, and Summer Math Tutoring is available for students in grades 1–8 both in person at Benchmark and via Zoom.

Benchmark School, founded in 1970, is an independent, co-educational school for bright children in grades 1–8 who have been identified as having dyslexia, ADHD, auditory processing, or other learning differences. Benchmark School is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS), which is a member in good standing of the National Association of Independent Schools’ Commission on Accreditation. The leadership team includes Chris Hancock and Dr. Hancock as Heads of School, David Gold as CFO, and Dr. Leslie Stein as a psychologist at Benchmark School.

Camp parents describe the program as amazing and report that their children’s progress has improved dramatically and that their confidence is “through the roof.” One camp parent notes that it is their child’s fifth summer with Benchmark and calls it “hands down…the best.” Another parent, Dan McDermott, P’31, states that Benchmark is empowering his child to believe in herself, her neurodivergent brain, and how she learns differently, which he identifies as a major reason for enrolling her at Benchmark.
