West Chester Dance Works is a company made up of five elements: the Signature/Training Company, DM Dance Machine, Junior Performers, Annointed Dance Ministry, and Annointed Too Dance Ministry. The Signature and Training Company is a semi-professional modern dance company that includes creative growth, performance experiences, lecture demonstrations, and residencies for artistic, cultural, and educational outreach. DM Dance Machine is described as the program’s premier dance team, combining jazz and hip hop dancing to current and inspiring music with a contagious, driving message. Junior Performers is a group for students who enjoy dance and are ready for additional challenges, opportunities, and performances to improve their performing skills and train in a more professional environment. Annointed Dance Ministry develops and uses dance skills to praise the Lord and connect to others, and Annointed Too Dance Ministry is a youth dance ministry open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 who wants to praise the Lord through dance and movement interpretation.
West Chester Dance Works states that it is “IN PURSUIT......of service, artistry, and connection,” and that through dance it reaches into communities, steps into new ones, and expands the unity that binds people, with dance as the vehicle and togetherness as the destination. This focus has been its impetus since the company’s inception in 1983. In partnership with local schools and community organizations, its “Relevate Youth” project seeks to address barriers in youth development while affirming and building feelings of self-worth through interactive dance programs. One parent shared that their daughter “has grown and matured a great deal since she started dancing with the company.”
