Hill Country Montessori School Programs

Hill Country Montessori School Programs include activities such as the HCMS Running Club and Star Gazing. Students have constructed a planetarium for a hands-on approach to studying astronomy. As part of the Montessori practical life curriculum, students care for Mikey and Tory on a daily basis.

Hill Country Montessori School Programs follow authentic Montessori classrooms with multi-age environments that generally span three years of age. Programs are exclusively designed for infants through middle school students and provide authentic Montessori education to students from preschool through 8th grade. Students select lessons with a large degree of autonomy, and teachers guide students through lessons of their choice at their desired pace.

All of the lead teachers hold credentials from American Montessori Society (AMS) or Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognized training programs, with 110 years of combined certified Montessori teaching experience. Hill Country Montessori School seeks to develop the whole child in preparation for a lifetime of personal fulfillment and contribution to society. Lead Teachers are Montessori-certified and are described as professionals of high academic and personal caliber.

Hill Country Montessori School is the successor organization to St. Helena’s Montessori School, which was founded in 1981, and the South School Street campus in Boerne was purchased in 1990. An Upper Elementary class was added in the fall of 2007, and the current campus was constructed in 2009. Hill Country Montessori School reports 44 years of serving Boerne and the Texas Hill Country community and began its journey as a parent initiative to provide early childhood education to the Boerne community.

The program is American Montessori Society (AMS) accredited and holds National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) accreditation, granted in August 2019. It has Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) through Cognia accreditation, granted in December 2005, and is licensed through the Texas Health and Human Services, Childcare Licensing Division. Hill Country Montessori School is currently the only AMS accredited Montessori school in the San Antonio metropolitan area and one of only seven accredited Montessori schools in the state of Texas, and is described as the only institution in the greater San Antonio area that is nationally accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and AdvancED.

Parents describe Hill Country Montessori School as having an atmosphere they view as an ideal learning environment, with faculty they describe as first class. One parent reports that their daughter is encouraged to choose her own learning path and that the classroom structure has supported her leadership skills, empathy, and selflessness. Another parent states that their son is more advanced than they believe he would be in the public system in areas including math, reading, writing, emotional intelligence, self-reliance, personal responsibility, respect towards others, and everyday practical skills. Several parents note a long-term connection to the school community, including children who started in the Toddler program and later entered high school, and they state that HCMS prepared their children for later education and life and that they value the school’s partnership in raising their children.
