Hill Country Montessori School Programs

Hill Country Montessori School Programs include activities such as Running Club, star gazing, and caring for Mikey and Tory as part of the Montessori practical life curriculum. Middle School students in the program have constructed a planetarium as a hands-on way to study astronomy.

Hill Country Montessori School Programs follow an authentic Montessori approach with multi-age classrooms that generally span three years of age, where students receive lessons individually or in groups and then work independently to master concepts. Students in these programs select lessons with a large degree of autonomy, and the programs are exclusively designed for infants through middle school students, including Summer Programs. The mission of Hill Country Montessori School is to develop the whole child in preparation for a lifetime of personal fulfillment and contribution to society.

St. Helena’s Montessori School, which became Hill Country Montessori School, was founded in 1981 and has served the Boerne and Texas Hill Country community for 44 years, beginning as a parent initiative to provide early childhood education. The school added an Upper Elementary class in fall 2007 and constructed its current campus in 2009. Hill Country Montessori School is committed to providing children of the Texas Hill Country with an excellent Montessori education.

All lead teachers in Hill Country Montessori School Programs hold credentials from American Montessori Society (AMS) or Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognized training programs, and lead teachers are Montessori-certified. The school is accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) through Cognia, and is licensed through the Texas Health and Human Services, Childcare Licensing Division. It is the only AMS accredited Montessori school in the San Antonio metropolitan area and one of only seven accredited Montessori schools in the state of Texas, and it is described as the only institution in the greater San Antonio area that is nationally accredited by AMS and AdvancED. Hill Country Montessori School, Inc. states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), socio-economic level, physical ability or genetic information, learning style, or any other legally protected class.

Parent testimonials describe children starting in the Toddler and Primary programs, continuing through middle school, and later entering high school while remaining close to HCMS teachers. Parents report that their children have been able to choose their own learning path, work at their own pace, and experience the Montessori Method with different styles of learning.
