About

Nature School of Fairview centers its days around hands-on activities such as building forts, playing in mud, drawing, and painting. Children also take part in songs, games, storytelling, and use art, music, drama, and puppetry as part of their learning experiences. The program follows an educational approach that combines experiential learning with nature in a non-tech environment with minimal reliance on screens and limited use of media.

Nature School of Fairview uses multi-age programs in which children learn by exploring the natural environment, with child-led learning based on the Reggio Emilia approach and an emergent curriculum that evolves from children’s interests. The program includes in-depth, long-term project-based learning, collaborative group work, problem-solving, negotiation, and dialogue, and it emphasizes attentive listening and personalized learning focused on each child’s interests. Its curriculum is specifically designed to meet and exceed TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards) and is structured with minimum paperwork, maximum outdoor nature-based learning, and zero testing. The program is inspired by Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori philosophies, uses a home-like classroom design with natural materials, and maintains a commitment to diversity by welcoming all backgrounds, ethnicities, and beliefs. Its stated mission is to protect the innocence of childhood, respectfully provide a dynamic natural environment to deepen the child’s relationship with nature, and encourage every student’s innate curiosity. Nature School of Fairview also provides a supportive “village” for families through regular gatherings that encourage shared ideas, friendships, and mutual support among parents and educators.
