Purple Box Theater Kids & Teen Programs offers acting, singing, movement, and team-based productions that include rehearsals and performances. Students may participate in placement auditions that include small group singing, individual songs, and a group dance portion, with everyone receiving a role. Program options include a Musical Theater Production Class, Theater Production Class, Broadway Kids Classes, Improv Classes, Camps, and Workshops.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Price: Monthly payments are due by the 1st of each month. A $25 late fee will be applied if payment is received after the 5th (or 7th, depending on class structure), and a $40 fee applies to all returned checks.
Payment options include Direct PayPal or Zelle to [email protected], listed under Cathy Holbrook (818-642-4665). The program uses a Remind text group as the primary method of communication during the semester. Purple Box Theater describes itself as a COMMUNITY THEATER & ACADEMY FOR THE ARTS and as “Friendswood’s most magical little stage with the biggest heart.”
Purple Box Theater states that its programs are designed to nurture creativity, build confidence, and ignite a lifelong love of performance for students of all ages and experience levels, and that it offers an inclusive and inspiring Adult Theater Program alongside youth programs. It describes itself as a supportive community where talent, passion, and play take center stage, and as a vibrant, welcoming community where young talent thrives, friendships flourish, and the applause is always loud.
Purple Box Theater has a national award winning musical theater program and has been voted Best Children’s Theater in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The program has received multiple honors at the Junior Theater Festival (JTF), including various Freddie G Excellence Awards in Music, Acting, and Dance, Outstanding Performance Festival Awards, Festival All Star Cast recognitions, Festival Tech Olympic Relay Team recognitions, Student Choreographer Awards, Social Media Ambassador roles, and selections to film choreography and video projects with iTheatrics across events in Atlanta, Sacramento, Sugar Land, and other JTF locations from 2017 through 2024.
Students are asked to follow specific dress guidelines: girls wear leggings and a t-shirt with hair pulled back in a ponytail, and boys wear jazz pants or athletic pants and a t-shirt, with no denim. Shoes are limited to dance shoes or tennis shoes, with no sandals, Crocs, boots, or flip-flops. Students are instructed to bring a labeled water bottle, script, and a pencil or pen.
