Purple Box Theater Kids & Teen Programs

Purple Box Theater Kids & Teen Programs includes acting, singing, movement, team-based productions, rehearsals, performances, workshops, masterclasses, and travel-based training. The program takes place at Purple Box Theater and features both local activities and travel-based experiences for participants.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

At Purple Box Theater, the stated mission is: “At Purple Box Theater, we believe in the power of storytelling, stage lights, and shared laughter.” The program is described as a community theater and academy for the arts, with an inclusive and inspiring adult theater program in addition to youth offerings. It is described as Friendswood’s “most magical little stage with the biggest heart,” and as a supportive, vibrant, welcoming community where young talent thrives and friendships flourish, led by experienced directors who lead with heart. Purple Box Theater Kids & Teen Programs also includes the PBT Company, an audition-only team that performs at festivals, showcases, and regional events, as well as Summer Intensives and travel experiences with no auditions required.

Purple Box Theater is described as a national award-winning musical theater program. It has been voted Best Children’s Theater in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Awards listed for its Junior Theater Festival (JTF) productions include: the 2024 JTF Atlanta (James and the Giant Peach Jr) Freddie G Excellence in Music Award; the 2023 JTF Atlanta (Annie Jr) Freddie G Excellence in Music Award; the 2022 JTF West Sacramento (Shrek Jr) Outstanding Performance Festival Award; the 2022 JTF West Sacramento (Shrek Jr) Freddie G Excellence in Music Award; the 2021 JTF Texas Sugarland (Oliver Jr) Freddie G Excellence in Acting Award; the 2018 JTF Atlanta (Shrek Jr) Freddie G Excellence in Music Award; and the 2017 JTF Atlanta (Beauty & the Beast Jr) Freddie G Excellence in Dance Award.
