About
BotaniCamp is a plant-centric nature camp where campers take part in creative hands-on activities such as making an insect collection, conducting experiments, interacting with live insects, and exploring habitats. Campers experiment with water chemistry, help clean up and keep waterways safe and healthy, turn vegetables into batteries, and make string out of algae. Daily activities can also include viewing an age-appropriate movie, participating in games, and other passive activities that match the week’s theme.

Age groups of 5–7 and 8–11 work separately and have age-appropriate activities and curriculum. BotaniCamp is a day camp that runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Garden After-Camp in the summer from 2–5 p.m., and campers mostly stay indoors during after camp since it is during the hottest part of the day. BotaniCamp is a nature camp, and campers spend as much time as weather allows outdoors, and the Houston Botanic Garden is not a licensed childcare facility. Parents are required to provide a sack lunch daily, while campers are provided two snacks per regular camp day and one snack for after camp, and families are asked to send children in breathable, comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty, along with a refillable water bottle.
The mission of the program’s host organization is enriching life through discovery, education, and the conservation of plants and the natural environment. Volunteers are described as vital members of the Houston Botanic Garden team, sharing their time and talents to help the Garden achieve its goals.
