Through purposeful play, campers explore new interests, strengthen social skills, and build confidence in a supportive, engaging environment. Campers also learn leadership, responsibility, and teamwork, and each day is thoughtfully designed to help children grow while having an unforgettable summer experience. Campers can choose to partake in free summer meals where available, or they can bring their own nut-free lunch, and these meals are at no cost to families and are not reflected in the weekly camper price. All weeks are on a first come, first serve basis, and once a camp is full, families can check back weekly on Wednesday morning or Friday at noon, when all availability is updated online and can be viewed by clicking the “Register for Camp” link. Second child discounts are not automatically applied at registration; families are instructed to email [email protected] after completing enrollment for the weekly rate to be adjusted.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has 135+ years serving the community and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. YMCA Dallas serves free summer meals at select summer camp locations that meet specific at-risk or income guidelines established by the Texas Department of Agriculture and the USDA, and these meals are at no cost to families. The Irving Summer Day Camps leadership team includes Program Director Kayley Walker and Childcare Customer Support and Customer Support Representative Laura Ortiz. One YMCA parent, Mayela, shared that when going through a divorce and transitioning to one income, the Y provided a scholarship for her son to play baseball, which made things feel a little bit easier. Another participant, Shirley from the Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program, stated that because of the Y, she discovered her blood pressure was in the danger zone, had her medication modified, and expressed thanks to YMCA staff for caring.
