Katy Art School offers art classes, summer camps, workshops, and Art Studio activities and projects. Students take part in an introduction to Art History, explore different mediums, practice various techniques, and create and keep both a journal and a portfolio throughout the year. The curriculum spirals through the Principles and Elements of Art Design, and students work through a series of activities and projects that meet specific Art Objectives, with the option to advance at their own pace.
Katy Art School states that it is a real art school and not a craft class to keep children busy. Students are introduced to Art History and how art has progressed over time, and they meet, through their work, a variety of artists from different ages and cultures. The curriculum takes the Art TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills) into account to keep each activity age appropriate, and students learn Elements of Art such as line, shape, form, color, texture, value, and space, along with Principles of Design such as balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity, and proportion. The program’s mission is to foster an atmosphere where the unique talents and perspectives of individual students can develop and flourish, create a student-centered environment where artists can advance knowledge and self-confidence, expand and nurture the talents of active and creative minds through diverse styles and mediums, and inspire students to enjoy art and have fun learning practical and relevant skills. Registration is open for both the Katy Art School Katy location and the Katy Art School Cypress location.
