Momentum Indoor Climbing Katy was built in 2017 and was Momentum’s first ground-up build outside of Utah. The facility includes 29,000 square feet of climbing terrain with over 200 routes and more than 120 boulders, within a total of 36,000 square feet of space for climbing and fitness activities. The gym offers free yoga for members daily and hosts special events to bring the community together, and it provides an array of youth programs to encourage kids’ love of the sport of climbing. The stated mission is: “We created Momentum to inspire and empower climbers to reach their full potential.”

All visitors, including spectators, must fill out a waiver before entering the facility. Rope climbers must be belay certified prior to climbing, either by demonstrating skills at the front desk or by taking a Learn To Belay class. Lead climbing requires a 35 meter rope, lead certification, and the ability to climb a 5.10 test route, and the gym does not provide or rent out lead ropes. Exercise equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis, and climbing shoes, harnesses, and belay devices are available to rent at the front desk.

One parent described hosting a birthday party for a 7-year-old with 20 kids and four party hosts, noting that the staff gathered the kids, gave instructions, organized the party itinerary, and assisted with setup, directing kids, serving food, cutting cake, and cleanup, and that all the kids were able to climb as many times as they wanted. Another visitor described their first time doing indoor wall climbing at the gym as “an AWESOME one” and “fantastic.”
