The business states the company motto, “You Can Play! We Guarantee It!” and provides lesson programs along with piano and organ sales, repair, moving, consignment, recital hall rental, and storage.

Valley Keyboards has been serving communities since 1979, and the companies were established in 1978. Valley Keyboards was formed in 1980, and Miller Hall was opened in 2001 as an onsite venue dedicated to Matt’s piano teachers, Eva and Gertrude Miller, who taught piano, organ, violin, and accordion lessons for more than 60 years in McAllen. The company’s mission and guiding values are based on the belief that music is for everyone and that every life needs music.

The program is led by founders Medardo “Matt” Pérez and Debra Pérez, with Debra serving as director of music education for Valley Keyboards. Matt and Debra earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Piano Performance; Matt earned his BM and MM from the University of North Texas, and Debra earned her MM at Southern Methodist and Ball State Universities. Debra is nationally recognized as a group piano specialist, curriculum developer, clinician, and music mentor, with speaking credits that include the Music Teachers National Association, Texas Music Educators Association, National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy, National Association of Music Merchants, and numerous universities and music stores around the country.

Matt and Debra will be honored by the Valley Symphony Orchestra as the 2019 Cultural Leaders of the Year, an award that recognizes individuals who have played a key role in enriching the arts and cultural community of the Rio Grande Valley. Testimonials about the program include comments from parents and students such as, “I never thought my 5 year old could learn to play so quickly,” and “After two semesters of lesson my daughter is less hyper-active, more focused, and doing better in school.” One adult student, Helen, shared, “The piano has been an instrument that allows me to relax and transports me into a world of enjoyment and accomplishment.” Debra has stated, “I passionately believe that every child should receive a music and arts education,” and describes “Musical Moments” as having brought “the joy of music to thousands of adults who have always dreamed of playing the piano.”
