• Ages: 5–18 years old

McKinney Art House was established in 2005 and operates as an art collective with a community of artists, each running their own classes. Independent teaching artists manage their own classes, and payments go directly to them. Classes are available for children, teens, and adults, with some classes described as family and all-ages friendly. The studio also offers a pottery studio membership with 24/7 access and dedicated pottery space for members, and pottery classes include a wide variety of glaze colors to choose from.

Many of the teachers at McKinney Art House are award winning, and some are nationally recognized in their specialized field. Teaching artist Cate Robbins holds a master’s degree in painting from Texas Woman's University, has been juried into local, regional, state, and international art shows, and has won numerous awards, including a first place blue ribbon at the 2016 Texas State Fair. In Cate Robbins’ classes, adults and teens provide their own supplies as needed for working in class and at home, while supplies are provided for children. The program states that its mission is to foster creativity and provide opportunities for artistic expression in the community.

Parents and students describe Cate Robbins in testimonials as knowledgeable about drawing, painting, and other art forms, and as a teacher who works with students at different skill levels and guides them individually toward improvement. Long-term students report taking classes with her for several years in mediums such as oil painting, pastel, colored pencil, acrylic, pencil, drawing, watercolor, and mixed media, and they describe her classes as professional and fun. Several testimonials mention students’ ongoing participation over multiple years and recommend her classes and studio to others.
