Plano Sports Authority was founded in December 1970 as a non-profit organization and later expanded within Collin County, opening PSA Murphy in 2013. Its mission is to provide quality year-round recreational and competitive youth sports leagues to over 100,000 youth across North Texas, with programs that welcome all skill levels through both recreational leagues and advanced select teams. The organization states that sports in its programs are more than just games and that it is committed to offering high-quality sports experiences that promote character, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a positive and inclusive environment.

PSA highlights several specific program features, including basketball programs for all ages with over 33,000 players, 38 courts, and year-round activities, and year-round soccer programs for more than 500 teams that include recreational, competitive, and skills training options. It operates what it describes as Texas’s largest nonprofit youth volleyball program, with Core and Competitive leagues each season, as well as recreational and advanced baseball for players ages 3 through 18 and recreational softball leagues for girls in grades K–12. Football offerings include year-round flag and tackle football for more than 4,000 players across multiple Metroplex locations, cheerleading that supports outdoor football and indoor flag teams with registration starting in late May through summer, and 7v7 football as a fast-paced, non-contact version of American football played with seven players per side on a smaller field, typically without pads.

Additional activities include Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Wrestling, and Adult Yoga & Performance at PSA McSweeney, a Track Club that is part of TAAF and offers training, competition, and fun for athletes of all levels, and PSA Dance Team, which performs in Plano, McKinney, and Murphy. PSA also offers six indoor pickleball courts with open play seven days a week, a Saturday challenge court, and court rental options, along with year-round programs for adults of all ages in basketball, soccer, and flag football. Across its facilities, PSA notes that it features state-of-the-art spaces including more than 38 basketball and volleyball courts and four indoor turf arenas.

Plano Sports Authority awards scholarships based on a family’s financial need, size, and annual income using a sliding scale, and calculates family income by including all individuals in the household such as step-parents, grandparents, and any adults living in the home. PSA sponsors support youth sports and community development by providing resources and scholarships while gaining visibility through PSA programs, events, and improved facilities, and PSA describes itself as leading youth sports by growing leagues, camps, and training while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
