About

Acting Company for Excellence (ACE) is a North Texas Performing Arts youth membership program that includes auditions, musical theatre cuttings of 16–32 bars in contrasting styles, singing with an accompanist, and performing dramatic or comedic monologues from classic or contemporary plays. Participants prepare sample portfolios for stage management, lighting design, set design, and costume design, answer interview questions from a panel of directors, and may serve as student interns for camp experiences and present curtain speeches for NTPA youth theatre productions. Members attend Collegiate Pursuits workshops and intensives, Jr. ACE-only Pursuits workshops and intensives, ACE/JACE gatherings and events, 1-on-1 audition feedback sessions, an annual ACE trip centered around performing arts activities, quarterly virtual ACE meetings, and an annual induction ceremony every January.

North Texas Performing Arts states that its mission is to be dedicated to developing the character of youth through performing arts education and family entertainment. ACE represents a group of 6–12th grade artists invested in the Pursuit of Excellence at NTPA, with members selected based on level of experience, talent through audition, and maturity. ACE membership is listed in every youth theatre playbill, and members have exclusive eligibility to earn tuition credit by serving as student interns for camp experiences, with intern hours redeemable to cover up to 50% of production tuition, not including classes, private lessons, or workshops. Free tickets for NTPA youth theatre productions up to $15 are available on an as-available basis with a unique ACE code, and members have exclusive access to the annual ACE trip, which in 2023 is a cruise scheduled June 25–July 2, 2023 out of Galveston. Jr. ACE students in grades 6–8 have exclusive access to Collegiate Pursuits training through Jr. ACE-only workshops and intensives typically reserved for high school students, while ACE students in grades 9–12 have exclusive early enrollment access for Collegiate Pursuits workshops and intensives and may attend any Collegiate Pursuits audition and receive free audition feedback. Each year, ACE members are invited on a trip centered around performing arts-related activities such as NYC, Disney World, Chicago, LA, or other similar destinations. Students must be in grades 6–8 for Junior ACE or 9–12 for ACE, be members in good standing with NTPA, be on the ACE Google Classroom, attend quarterly virtual ACE meetings, and attend the annual induction ceremony every January, and they can audition for ACE at any Pursuits audition or Conservatory audition call, with a Conservatory audition at NTPA Academy also counting as an ACE entry audition.
