• Ages: 3–18 years old
The Local Motion Project Youth Program is led by an organization whose mission is to bring people of all ages together through dance and movement to spark creativity, curiosity, and joy. The leadership team includes Brenna Cooley, President; Meg Williams, Treasurer; and Elizabeth Hein, Secretary. Local Motion Project is supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. The program welcomes all levels, from beginners to lifelong movers, and states that its programs are open to everyone, based on the belief that every body can move and everyone is creative. The organization states that it blends creativity and research to build programs that spark imagination and support well-being, and it describes a vision of a world where dance is part of everyday life, bringing people together, building strength, and supporting well-being in every community. It notes that it is metro accessible via King Street Station. Local Motion Project also states a non-discrimination commitment, welcoming and celebrating people of all races, colors, religions, genders, gender identities or expressions, ages, national origins, abilities, marital statuses, sexual orientations, and military backgrounds.
