Local Motion Project Youth Program

Local Motion Project Youth Program offers inclusive, non-competitive dance classes where young movers participate in activities such as Free Fridays, $15 Fridays, Sound Healing in Hammocks, Bhangra, and Intro to Kizomba. The program includes accessible classes for movers of all backgrounds to explore new practices and build skills across different genres of dance and movement. Programs are open to everyone, based on the belief that every body can move and everyone is creative.

Local Motion Project Youth Program is led by a team that includes Brenna Cooley, President, Meg Williams, Treasurer, and Elizabeth Hein, Secretary. Its mission is to bring people of all ages together through dance and movement to spark creativity, curiosity, and joy. The program blends creativity and research to build offerings that spark imagination and support well-being, and it lifts up the artists who make the work possible through fair pay, growth opportunities, and a culture of care. Local Motion Project is supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. The program welcomes and celebrates people of all races, colors, religions, genders, gender identities or expressions, ages, national origins, abilities, marital statuses, sexual orientations, and military backgrounds, and it is grounded in a vision of a world where dance is part of everyday life, bringing people together, building strength, and supporting well-being in every community.
