First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge is a licensed chapter of First Tee, a youth development organization that integrates golf with a life skills curriculum. Its mission is to provide transformational and educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. First Tee began in 1997, was originally founded locally as First Tee – Charlottesville in the early 2000s, and in September 2015 the Blue Ridge Youth Golf Foundation, Inc. was started as a locally funded non-profit organization; in April 2016, First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge officially became a licensed chapter. The chapter offers Girls Golf specifically crafted for girls ages 6 to 17 in partnership with the LPGA & USGA, and serves as the Charlottesville Area Coordinator for the VSGA. Programs are delivered in partnership with schools and physical education teachers, with more than 19 schools offering First Tee curriculum within the Albemarle County School District and serving youth in the City of Charlottesville and the surrounding counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Culpeper, and Orange. The ACE Program includes a focus on leadership and community involvement, along with college and career preparation through life skills. An indoor facility for First Tee – Virginia Blue Ridge is scheduled to open to the public in January 2025.
