The Online Chess Academy serves kids all over the world and the Online Academy serves students in all 50 states. Over the years, more than 120,000 kids have learned to play chess with Silver Knights, and they have taught chess to more than 100,000 children in classes and camps. The Elite Academy program is for students rated over 1400 and features three Grandmaster coaches. The program offers tournaments for players of all skill levels. Silver Knights Chess Academy has a need-based scholarship program that gives out more than $50,000 of free and discounted classes each year.

Founder Adam Weissbarth earned his National Master title and started Silver Knights Chess in 2006. In the 2006–2007 school year, he taught chess in 16 schools and community centers, and in 2008 he was joined by his brother Daniel, who was also his first student. In 2020 they added online chess classes. From 2021–2024 they were part of Magnus Carlsen’s Play Magnus Group of Companies and later part of chess.com. In October of 2024, ownership and operations transitioned back to Adam and Daniel, and in March of 2025 the company name changed back to Silver Knights. The program’s mission statement is “More than a game - chess builds skills kids carry for life.”

More than 50 of their students have become state or national champions, and the program has produced 11 scholastic state champions around the country in 2025, including through the Online Academy. Parent testimonials describe children starting as newcomers to chess, learning to get checkmates, and being excited to return to classes and camps. Parents report weekly status updates from coaches, strong communication, and experiences in after-school programs, the online academy, and summer camps. One parent notes that a child’s online rating went from 1400 to almost 2000 after around 3–4 years in the academy. Multiple parents say their children enjoyed learning, practicing with other campers, and talking at home about what they learned.
