STEMSkills Programs offers hands-on, real-world learning experiences that include participating in different STEM activities, using Tinkercad for 3D designs and electronics, and building a robot while learning about wires and traffic lights. Students also learn how to use and ride the Metro Transit, visit different jobs and colleges such as Nova Community College, George Mason University, DC Streetcar, Dewberry, and Virginia Tech, and get exposure to the behind-the-scenes of corporate jobs while they network with companies and build friendships with other students. Some students use software such as AutoDesk, RVT 3D modeling software, rendering software, and Photoshop, and take part in STEM Pathway Evaluation, Individual Student Private Consultation, Special Education Transition Consultation, Pre-Employment Transition Services, STEMSkills After-School Programs, and the STEMSkills School Curriculum with hands-on projects and real-world applications.

STEMSkills Programs includes STEMSkills Summer Programs for ages 14–21 and STEMSkills School Curriculum that uses adaptable lesson plans. The mission of STEMSkills is to create inclusive programs that help diverse learners excel in STEM fields through partnerships with schools and businesses and hands-on career exploration opportunities that prepare students for success beyond the classroom. The program has partnerships and collaborations with schools and corporate leaders, including Fairfax County Public Schools and Dewberry.
STEMSkills was founded and is led by Eric Duer, who is described as Founder and Founder & CEO of STEMSkills. Eric Duer holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Special Education Transition from George Washington University, has teaching certifications in Special Education and History (K–12) in the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and holds the CESP credential.
Testimonials describe students learning how to use the metro until they are comfortable riding on their own, exploring graphic design career options, and seeing colleges they might want to attend after high school. Other testimonials describe students using software they learned at Dewberry to practice what they had learned, and say that STEMSkills has helped them grow by guiding their career choice and showing them what independence and responsibility look like, including how to pick the right colleges to attend after high school.
