Claymagination Art Camp is part of Clay Cafe Studios, an award winning paint-your-own-pottery studio and a family-owned and operated business. Clay Cafe Studios has been family owned and operated since 1998 and is described as one of the area’s premier summer art camps for kids ages 6 and up. All classes are taught to small groups by caring, friendly, and experienced teachers, and no experience is necessary for any activities. The experienced staff assist customers and help make their time leisurely and rewarding.
The original owner, Helene Safford, is an artist and musician with a background in technology, business, and finance, and after founding and owning the studio for 20 years, she sold the studio to her longtime manager, Gayla Hassett. Clay Cafe Studios states that its mission is to provide innovative, practical, and top-quality products that improve the way people spend leisure time, with a first responsibility to the community of dual income workers and their families who use its products. The studio also offers after-school art enrichment programs, birthday parties, school and scout programs, and catered events, and notes that no appointment or reservations are required for walk-in paint-your-own-pottery, and that they can bring the party to customers.
Clay Cafe has become an integral part of the greater Falls Church community and actively engages in many community efforts to bring art and creative activities to customers. It promotes arts and community programs to enhance community engagement, provides local elementary schools with innovative after-school art programs, and develops relationships with local families, schools, and non-profit organizations. The studio provides art enrichment programs and fundraising assistance through creative partnerships, contributes to school fundraising auctions in Falls Church and surrounding communities, and has facilitated developing rain gardens and school improvements such as walkways and hall murals. It provides creative art enrichment to many area schools, has hosted many fundraisers to help local homeless shelters and other community organizations, and owners and management routinely participate in local programs to provide meaningful, real-world business experiences to special needs and underprivileged students from area schools.
