George Mason Debate Institute offers instruction in public forum style debate and policy style debate. The program offers classes in these debate formats for students in grades 6 through 12.
• Ages: 11–18 years old
Founded in 1974, the Mason Debate Team has been a core program fulfilling the university's history of excellence within research and advocacy. The George Mason Debate Institute is led by Dr. Jackie Poapst, Director of Debate, and Nick Loew, Assistant Director of Debate. The Mason Debate Team also hosts the largest middle school and high school debate camp in the state of Virginia. The team goal is to make debate accessible and possible for debaters of all skill levels, from novice to nationally competing varsity debaters. The program is consistently ranked in the top five programs in the country by the Cross Examination Debate Association, the American Debate Association, and the National Debate Tournament sweepstakes championships.
