About
Play-Well TEKnologies Enrichment Programs offer LEGO-inspired engineering classes where students take part in an Engineering with LEGO enrichment program using tens of thousands of LEGO pieces. During classes, students explore concepts in physics, architecture, mechanical engineering, and structural engineering through Adventures in STEM and STEM Explorations. Each meeting includes design and building assignments, challenges, performance testing, competitions, and opportunities to make modifications to projects, with instructors providing individual assistance and instruction while students work individually, in teams, and as a group.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Classes typically meet once per week before or after school for an entire quarter (Fall/Winter/Spring), and session duration is generally 90-minutes.
• Price: Pricing varies based on area, course being offered, number of sessions, etc.
Each class meeting starts with a short discussion and demonstration of the day’s topic, and all materials for the course are provided each week, with no LEGO pieces sent home after camp. The organization’s mission states that kids are already naturally gifted creators and that the program strives to offer an environment where students can create without fear of mistakes, explore fundamental STEM concepts through play, and express their creativity in ways they never thought possible. Instructors have varied careers and educational backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, architecture, biology, art, geology, education, and civil engineering, and the leadership team includes President Tim Bowen, Vice President of Administration and Human Resources Meredith Bowen, Vice President of Operations Jennifer Gaona, and Regional Managers Mike Spee, Jessica Wall, and Michael Beddall. The programs are not authorized, sponsored or endorsed by the LEGO Group, and families can also access Play-Well At-Home Videos to build and learn along with instructors anytime and anywhere. Testimonials from parents describe strong instruction, organized and fun instructors, consistent program quality across different instructors, and children’s enthusiasm for returning to Play-Well TEKnologies programs.
