Youth Basketball is a winter sports league program that offers organized Youth Basketball as part of broader Youth Sports Leagues and Sports Leagues. The program includes city-run leagues for youth basketball and also works alongside recreation associations that offer additional league options such as “Farm Leagues” for younger players.
• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: The season runs from January to mid-March.
• Price: Recreation Associations charge player registration fees. Fees and age groups vary by area.
Youth Basketball is offered in the winter for boys and girls. The city is divided into 12 geographic areas for Parks and Recreation youth sports, and the city offers leagues for youth aged 10 through 18. Most Recreation Associations also offer “Farm Leagues” for youth under age 10. High school varsity and junior varsity players are not eligible for the same community league sport.
Each area has a volunteer Area Chairperson and a Community Recreation Association that organizes programs in conjunction with Sports Management. Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and protecting our coastal environment. Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is accredited by CAPRA, the certifying agency of the National Recreation and Park Association, and was named the 2023 National Gold Medal Award winner for excellence in Parks and Recreation Management by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration, in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association, in the Class I category for cities with populations over 400,000.
