Founded in 1974 as the Arts Council of Snohomish County and later renamed in honor of John and Idamae Schack, the Schack Art Center offers inclusive and accessible arts programming that fosters creativity, engages the community and cultivates partnerships to enrich lives through the transformative power of the arts. It is described as the premier visual arts destination between Seattle and Vancouver B.C. and offers admission-free contemporary exhibitions that highlight social justice, celebrate cultural diversity, and bring non-traditional art to the forefront, along with a curated gallery store featuring handcrafted work by over 200 regional artists and the only public glassblowing hot shop north of Seattle. Schack Art Center engages the community through arts education and outreach programs and events such as Family Engagement Night, which is described as an evening of art activities, story times, raffle prizes, and community connection.
