About
Concerts For Kids features music and performing arts activities for children. The program is part of the broader Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival, which includes elements such as live music and arts programming.
• Ages: 5–11 years old
The Concerts For Kids program is connected to the Education Stage at the Festival, which provides an opportunity for amateur musicians of all ages to perform. The Festival also includes a KIDS ZONE with activities such as the “Clarinet Corral,” where students can pick up and try out a clarinet or other instrument, musical instrument coloring pages, and a Corn Hole game at the Bravo! Concerts Northwest information booth. Concerts For Kids is a program of Bravo! Concerts Northwest, which also presents the Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival.
The Festival was founded in 1998, and the first annual Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival took place September 26–27, 1998. It is a program of Bravo! Concerts Northwest, a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization, and after being cancelled for two years due to COVID, the Festival returned in 2022. The Festival’s mission is to celebrate musical, visual, performing, and enological arts and to bring together GRAMMY-winning internationally acclaimed musicians, regional jazz, blues, gospel and other bands, Northwest wines, fine artists, and local cuisine.
The leadership team includes Dr. Michael Kissinger, Founder and Artistic Director, and Dr. Maria Manzo, Festival Director. Dr. Michael Kissinger is a professional classical and jazz clarinetist, conductor, composer, and producer. The Festival has been described by ABC TV KATU 2 in Portland, Oregon as “the largest festival of its kind in the Pacific Northwest,” and The Oregonian has written that “this region may be rife with summer festivals, but few capture a finer spirit than the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival.”
More than 150 community volunteers work to bring the Festival to the community each year, and ticket sales show that visitors from 30 U.S. states, Canada, China, Europe, and Japan have attended. The Festival has been recognized as a 2024 grant recipient of the Paul G. Allen ArtsFund Foundation, was awarded 2023 “Event of the Year” for Southwest Washington by the Washington Festivals & Events Association, and has been awarded “Outstanding Tourism Event” by Clark County. The Festival is described as the #1 cultural tourism event in Southwest Washington and “the largest jazz festival of its kind in the Northwest” by ABC TV KATU 2 in Portland, Oregon.
