About

Bike Clark County Youth Bicycle Programs include activities such as bike maintenance skills, bike safety, classroom lessons, playground practice, and group rides. The programs also connect with community events and rides, and are supported by a full service bicycle repair and retail bike shop that carries new and used gear and bicycles. Some youth take part in an Earn a Bike Camp where participants receive a free used bike while learning bicycle repair and other bike maintenance skills, and others join a School Safety Course that combines classroom lessons, playground practice, and a group ride.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Bike shop open Wednesday–Saturday, 11:00am–6:00pm; closed to the public on Sundays to focus on community programs
• Price: Programs are usually free and made possible through donations

Bike Clark County has been creating the next generation of safe and responsible cyclists since 2009, and Pete Van Tilburg helped co‑found the organization in 2006 with local community volunteers and leaders. Bike Clark County is Southwest Washington’s only Bicycle Education and Advocacy organization and does not charge membership dues. Its mission is to increase bicycle access for everyone by promoting education, fostering sustainability, and inspiring safe adventures for riders of all ages and abilities. The bike shop is part of Bike Clark County’s nonprofit bicycle safety organization and supports programs and bikes for kids and schools, as well as community events and rides.

The leadership team includes Founder Eric Giacchino; Vice President and Executive Director Peter Van Tilburg; Board President Christopher Stekhuizen; Board Members Preston Antisdel, Mike Farber, Brooke Harmon, Sherry Chavez, and Sally Williams; Bike Shop Service Manager Ryan Thiele; and Program Manager Lisa Giacchino. Staff credentials include Peter Van Tilburg’s bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Business Administration, Mike Farber’s work as an OB/Gyn physician and Medical Director of the Family Birth Center at PeaceHealth Southwest, Brooke Harmon’s work as an environmental engineer focused on stormwater and remediation, Sherry Chavez’s role as Columbia Network Informatics director at PeaceHealth, and Lisa Giacchino’s experience working as a pre‑K teacher. In the community, Bike Clark County leaders are involved in efforts such as coaching a local Special Olympics cycling team and serving on the Scenic Bikeways Task Force for Washington State.
