Vancouver City Ballet / DanceWorks Performing Arts offers children’s ballet and pre-ballet classes, including Princess Ballerina, Twirling Tutus, Prima Ballerina, Princess Pirouette, Pre-Ballet, Level 1A Ballet, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5. The Children’s Program includes two levels of study, and most students attend class once a week. The program includes classical ballet training, with some levels requiring multiple classes per week and class lengths of 75 or 90 minutes.

• Princess Ballerina — Ages 3-6 years old · Children’s Program ballet class for younger students; requires DW approved Pink Skirt, Pale pink leotard, pink tights, hair tied back.
• Twirling Tutus — Ages 3-6 years old · Children’s Program ballet class for younger students.
• Prima Ballerina — Ages 6-9 years old · Children’s Program pre-ballet class; requires DW approved Pink Skirt, Pink leotard, Pink tights, hair in a bun.
• Princess Pirouette — Ages 6-9 years old · Children’s Program pre-ballet class; requires DW approved Pink Skirt, Pink leotard, Pink tights, hair in a bun.
• Pre-Ballet — Ages 6-9 years old · Introduction to a formal ballet class.
• Level 1A Ballet — Ages 8-12 yrs · Required 1 class per week; classes 75 minutes long.
• Level 1 — Ages 9-12 yrs · Required 2 classes per week; classes 90 minutes long.
• Level 2 — Ages 11-13 yrs · Required 2 classes per week; classes 90 minutes long.
• Level 3 — Ages 12+ yrs · Required 2 classes per week; classes 90 minutes long.
• Level 4 — Age 12+ yrs · Required 4 classes per week; classes 90 minutes long. Beginning Pointe may also be offered to a student at this level.
• Level 5 — Age 14+ yrs · Required 5 classes per week; classes 90 minutes long. Classical Variations class is offered to a student at this level.
• Children’s Program — Ages 3-8 · Offers two levels of study for the young dancer ages 3-8; most students attend class once a week.

About the provider

The program has offered classical ballet training in the region since 1993. Its mission focuses on excellence in dance class lesson training and in nurturing children and young people. It has developed a reputation as one of the area’s top pre-professional ballet training programs, and its dancers consistently attend Youth America Grand Prix. Students have been accepted into The Juilliard School, Point Park University, Oklahoma City University, Pace University in NYC, Cornish College Of The Arts, The University of Arizona, and more.

Office staff is on site during all class times. Classes (ages 6-12) are limited to a maximum of 12 students per class. Younger classes (ages 3-5) are limited to a maximum of 10. There is an assistant program in which senior students demonstrate and assist in classes. The school orders costumes ready-made for the May ballet show. 5 tickets and a DVD are included in the showcase fee; extra tickets can be purchased for a nominal fee. Dress code is specified for Princess Ballerina, Princess Pirouette, Prima Ballerina, Level 1A & Up, and VCB Male Attire.
