Wisconsin Farmers Union states that its mission is to enhance the quality of life for family farmers, rural communities, and all people through educational opportunities, cooperative endeavors, and civic engagement. In the 1940s, Wisconsin Farmers Union President Ken Hones began advocating for leadership training, and the camp is named after him. Farmers Union Camps at Kamp Kenwood have been home to summer fun for generations, and the camp program is supported by co-ops and credit unions statewide. WFU Day Camps are 1-day camps that typically serve youth ages 7–11 and are hosted in partnership with Kamp Kenwood summer staff, local chapters and their youth programs, and a host site. The Senior Co-op Trip includes a day trip to a local city within three hours to explore different types of cooperatives and visit tourist destinations, followed by an extra night at camp. Scholarships are available for camp, and families are given access to information such as directions and a packing list. Families also have the option to donate to the Kamp Kenwood Improvement Fund.
