About

Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy is a 22-week quasi-military residential alternative education program for Wisconsin students who are behind in high school credits. During the 22 weeks, Cadets live on base while they prepare for and complete their high school credentials, with a focus on finishing high school education and personal growth in a distraction-free environment. The program states that in 22 weeks Cadets can go from being high school credit deficient to finishing their high school education, be in the best shape of their lives physically and mentally while substance free, and graduate with up to 7 free, fully transferrable college credits, along with access to grants and scholarships as Cadets and Graduates.

Since 1998, Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy has been serving Wisconsin teens, with 25 years of operation and 4,500 graduates from all corners of the state. Its stated mission is to offer Cadets the opportunity to develop the strength of character and the life-skills necessary to become successful, responsible citizens. The program describes itself as a reset button for Wisconsin high school students who are behind on credits, offering 22 weeks toward a future full of opportunities. The Academy also highlights that guidance from volunteer mentors is crucial to Cadets' success after graduating and thanks these volunteers for enriching the lives of Wisconsin youth. For non-Wisconsin residents, the program notes that there may be similar programs available in other states through the National Guard Youth Challenge Program website under “Find a Program.”
