Boys & Girls Club of Sparta offers membership-based programming for youth, with regular after-school hours during the school year and extended hours in the summer. During the school year, transportation to the Club is provided by the schools’ bussing system. Fridays in the summer are reserved for field trips only.
• Schedule: School year membership hours run Monday–Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with overall school year hours of 2:30–6:30 p.m. (1:30–6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays). Summer membership hours run from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with summer hours listed as June 8–August 15, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 12:30–5:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday for drop-in; Friday summer hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays are reserved for field trips only. The Club is closed on snow days, and if schools let out early due to inclement weather, the Club is open after dismissal until 3:30 p.m.
• Price: Membership at the Club costs $30.00 per year.
The Boys & Girls Club of Sparta has been a cornerstone of the community since opening its doors in 1995 and serves some 300 youth each year. The organization states that it provides a safe, structured and positive environment for youth, including a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, and hope and opportunity. It also states that its programs instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and power or influence.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Sparta is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need the Club most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The leadership team includes Jennifer Simunich, Executive Director; Patty Elsen, Business Manager; Danielle Reget, Director of Club Services; Brandi Johnston, Program Coordinator; Kara Antony, Interim Mentoring Matters Coordinator; and Kristina Garbers, Education Coordinator. Program staff are described as program staff, with 18 years or older preferred.
The Boys & Girls Club of Sparta is part of a nationwide network of Boys & Girls Clubs located in every state, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and U.S. military installations overseas. Community support is invited through contributions to help provide programs and services to youth throughout the area. Boys & Girls Club of Your Town is described as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and donations are tax deductible.
