BRIDGE For Community Life began in 2004 when several families came together to form an organization then called BRIDGE For Youth & Adults with Disabilities. BRIDGE is a non-profit organization that provides community-based life skills training, employment services, and social and recreational programs for youth and adults with disabilities. Its mission states that BRIDGE collaborates with school, county and community agencies in providing lifelong learning opportunities for youth and others with disabilities. BRIDGE focuses on helping clients identify individual strengths and develop independence, promotes a healthy lifestyle and fitness habits to improve mobility, and offers ways for clients to establish connections with people they live around and work with daily. Clients also have the chance to explore the arts and the cultures of the St. Croix River Valley. BRIDGE has been open for 18 years and serves 350 individuals per year with 50 active volunteers.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Peg Gagnon, Program Director Jesse Stickler, Administrative and Marketing Director Ginny Ballantine, Program and Event Support staff member Linda Redding, HR & Program Manager and staffing coordinator and CPR/First Aid Instructor Kristin Beckman, Vehicle Technician Dan Sammon, Program Supervisor Geena Troester, Community Employment Coordinator Olivia Chouinard, Financial Specialist Cheri Weiss, and Communications & Volunteer Coordinator Ellie Ballantine. BRIDGE’s Transition Program for High School Students prepares students leaving special education for their adult life by attending Day Services for continued life-skills development. BRIDGE To Home Services provides 1:1 safe and essential care for youth and adults with disabilities in their homes on weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Virtual Services offers 1-hour classes Monday through Friday via Zoom Meetings, with class topics driven by participants’ interests.
Community involvement at BRIDGE includes collaboration with school, county and community agencies and an emphasis on giving back by volunteering within the community. Clients volunteer at Christian Community Home and take part in parades through historic Hudson and River Falls by riding the BRIDGE Bus or walking alongside it. Testimonials from clients and community members describe enjoying different daily activities, volunteering, hanging out with friends, going to the YMCA, playing the Wii, and reading different types of books at the library.
