Easterseals Wisconsin Camps are the longest, continuously running Easterseals camps in the nation. The camps are part of Easterseals Wisconsin, which offers experiences of a lifetime and respite to families for children and adults with disabilities throughout Wisconsin and has done so since 1938.
Easterseals Wisconsin is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the state and has served people with disabilities in Wisconsin for nearly a century. It currently serves close to 10,000 children and adults with disabilities and their families each year. Since 1926, Easterseals Wisconsin has provided a variety of programs for people with disabilities to live independently, become self-sufficient, and enjoy life more fully. The organization’s mission is to increase independence, maximize opportunities, minimize barriers, and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities. Christine Fessler serves as the Easterseals Wisconsin President & CEO.
Serving as a model for similar programs nationwide, the FARM Program of Easterseals Wisconsin helps farmers return to farming after a disabling accident or illness. Easterseals Wisconsin also offers a unique camping experience to veterans and their families through Veterans Family Camp, which is held twice a year and is free to veterans and their families, giving them a chance to network and reconnect.
In September 2017, Easterseals Wisconsin launched a new, revitalized brand. The new logo design appears as rays of light, hope and sunshine, radiating out from the “e.” The deliberate grouping of circles in the logo symbolizes breadth, scope, network, communities, and individuals served. The primary colors of the brand are Easterseals orange and Easterseals yellow, with a secondary color of blue.
One testimonial states, “The Self-Employment Specialist knew how to tailor a business plan to my needs and then helped by breaking it up so I was not so overwhelmed.” Another testimonial notes that AmeriCorps members and camp counselors who volunteer for the veterans camp weekends are trained to care for children with disabilities, which allows parents to participate in activities such as the adults’ dinner and Quilts of Valor ceremony. A third testimonial says, “Thanks to Easterseals Wisconsin, I have my business up and running and I’m looking forward to a successful future.”
