Signature Dance Company is a performance dance company for women and girls in Milwaukee, WI, with a single, unified company that has four distinct skill levels. The program describes itself as more than just dance and more than just a dance company, and states that it is faith-centered, sharing God-given gifts without compromise. It states that mentorship is a core element, with accountability and encouragement, and that it emphasizes community as a safe sisterhood where participants are known by name. Signature Dance Company offers a family-friendly dance production that explores the challenges of today’s world through movement, music, and storytelling and provides scholarships, costumes, and safe spaces for Milwaukee's youth.
Signature Dance Company operates Monday through Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. The organization partners with local churches and youth organizations to deliver high-quality dance instruction directly to participants and notes that serving the public has been a part of co-founder Malaika Osei’s life since her teenage years.
The leadership team includes founder and board chaplain Tecia Sellers, co-founder and board chair and company director Desiree Cocroft, and co-founder and executive director Malaika Osei. Additional board members include Cierra Chesir, Tiffany Chin Moore, Symphony Swan, and Breona Stone, PhD. Tecia Sellers has earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Services Management. Desiree Cocroft completed her Bachelor of Arts in Dance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2010. Ms. Malaika Osei holds a Master’s Degree in Public Service with a focus on Criminal Justice Administration from Marquette University. Signature Dance Company notes a history of 20+ years of ministry.
The mission of Signature Dance Company is “sharing, without compromise, all our God gifts and talents while helping others realize their own.” One dancer, Brook, now a leader in the Junior Company, says, “Signature has given me another family... It’s a safe space for me to be me. It has also helped me to get and stay closer to God.” A parent, Toria, says, “I’ve watched Brook’s personality and character blossom. Signature’s values reinforce what I am teaching her at home... it is a community to support you as you raise your child.”
